Getting Around on Margarita Island
Transportation on Margarita Island is made very simple by a huge number of taxis available at fairly reasonable rates. Most short taxi trips run around $5 and a full day taxi rental will cost around $150 for three or more people. At night it may be difficult to find a taxi driver who will to go to, or return from out—of—the—way places, so keep that in mind before you send your driver on his way. Fare from the airport to Porlamar is around $10.
There is also a surcharge of 30 percent after 9:00 PM and a surcharge of 10 percent on Sundays and holidays. Tipping is not necessary and always agree on a price before getting in the taxi.
Car Rental
Car rental is a good way to see the Island if you plan to be here for several days. Keep our Concierge Service in mind when it comes to car rental. If you agree to use our service we will book a car for you that includes free airport pickup and drop off. The rental agency we deal with has a very helpful English speaking staff who will drive you (in your car) from the airport to your hotel making your first few hours relaxing and hassle free. They have the newest and best maintained cars on the Island. If you choose not to rent through our preferred agency, our Concierge Service can also provide transportation to several agencies located near the Hotel Bella Vista. I should mention that gasoline costs are unbelievably low; I fill up my Honda Civic for around three Bolivars, or around $1.30 at the official exchange rate.
