For Adventurous Souls

The most interesting way to approach Angel Falls is by way of Kamarata, located Southeast of Auyantepui, on the Akanán River. Approach Angel Falls from this direction for a longer river trek that follows the cliffs along the Auyantepui River to the Akanán River which merges with the Carrao River. After viewing the falls, passengers embark from Canaima for the flight out. This is a six day tour and requires participants to be able to hike comfortably for several hours. This tour would cost around $1500 in the most desirable season, August through October. Contact Monkey Business at least two months ahead if you would like to participate in this six day river tour.

Another Monkey Business adventure option is a ten day raft trip that really allows you to drink in the wonder of the ancient tepui country and to explore the amazing Auyantepui itself. The impressive table top rises 4500 ft. The top is carved with a deep gorge called Devil's Canyon where Angel Falls plunges over a prehistoric cliff into a bloody red pool nearly a mile below. A trek to the top is a true expedition that requires porters and guides, hired in Kamarata, but would be the trip of a lifetime. Monkey Business would welcome the opportunity to book reservations on this amazing tour and might even join your group if that is acceptable to you. Expect to spend several thousand dollars for a trip of this kind, in addition to the airfare to and from Kamarata.

There is air service to Kamarata on Rutaca Airlines on a less than reliable schedule. If you manage to book a flight to Kamarata, be sure to show up early.
